CDA has two dive sites in Tasmania.
One for primarily onshore diving (Beauty Point) and a second dive site primarily for offshore diving (Lake Cethana).
Beauty Point
Beauty Point, located approximately 45 minutes north of Launceston, is a small township alongside the Tamar River. It was first established to service the gold mine in the nearby town, Beaconsfield.
CDA’s dive site at Beauty Point is located on the southern end of Inspection Head Wharf, where we have a dive pontoon and a warehouse with classrooms, as well as aa workshop for equipment maintenance. Students completing ADAS Part 1 and ADAS Part 2 will train at this location.
Lake Cethana
Lake Cethana is a lake with a pumped hydro dam in northwest Tasmania. Water depths are up to 100m, making it an ideal dive site for deeper offshore diver training.
CDA has a permanent barge on Lake Cethana, with a saturation system involving a twin-lock hyperbaric chamber, submersible diving closed bell and hyperbaric rescue chamber. There is also a wet bell for ADAS Part 3 training. The equipment and capabilities at this location also enable CDA to train Assistant Life Support Technician (ALST) courses as well as Chamber Operator courses. It also offers some spectacular views of the Tasmanian wildnerness.
Sheffield
CDA also has a training centre in Sheffield, a small town approximately 20 minutes from Lake Cethana. We have a classroom, storage and workshop at this site. Most of the theory for offshore training is taught at this location.
